Founded in 2009, Living Media International has stayed resilient to adapt to our community’s evolving needs

Our History

2009

Living Media International was founded by a group of 5 local young adults from Mizak. Early programs included classes in art, music, and English for young adults in Mizak as well as adult literacy for older community members who never received a formal education.

2010

The devastating earthquake of January 12th struck the country, claiming the lives of more than 300,000 Haitians. Living Media continued its arts programming to help community members process the trauma. LMI also partnered with a new local elementary school. Foyer St. Jude, to support education efforts meant to serve new children to the area displaced from cities by the earthquake.

2012

Living Media began the Dreamer program to sponsor local young adults to pursue university level educations and develop leadership skills for community development. LMI formally adopted Foyer St. Jude and the school was renamed New Life Primary.

2013

Property was purchased and ground was broken on the construction of New Life Primary School. In the fall of 2013 classes began on the new site as construction continued to expand the school.

2016

Living Media International established a new art gallery in Jacmel and partnered with Jacmel Arts Center to provide new classes in art and dance for New Life Primary students.

2014

Through a partnership with Then Feed Just One and the support of other friends from the US, New Life Primary School began offering daily hot meals to the students at the school. LMI partnered with LaVallee de Demain to teach students gardening and environmental skills.

2017

New Life Primary added up through 11th grade and started classes in computer skills and English language for upper level students.

2015

Construction on New Life School building was completed, including all classrooms and the office. Solar panels were added to the school and a well was drilled through a partnership with Water For Life to provide potable water to students.

2020

New Life School grew to serve 260 students from Kindergarten to 11th grade, taught and administered by a talented a passionate team of young Haitian visionaries.

Today

New Life School now serves more than 300 students from Kindergarten to 13th grade. Even through the COVID-19 pandemic the school managed to grow and continue to provide a safe and encouraging place for children to learn. Now the school leaders navigate the daily challenges of insecurity and political uncertainty to ensure they are raising up a generation of future leaders for their country full of hope and possibility.
